The opening weekend of the Premier Division saw several results that provoked a reaction across social media. With all last season’s top four losing, there were cries of “why can’t the England players play?”
Firstly, let’s get one thing straight, Great Britain is more than England. Scottish players were also impacted so we need to address the narrative that it’s just England-GB players that were impacted. Anyone who played in the EuroHockey was on rest time and advised not to play.
Whilst England Hockey replied to some comments explaining a rest period had been agreed with clubs, our correspondence must have got lost in the post as despite having a centrally contracted player no contact was made. But we’re used to it above the M4 so it came as no surprise, which is a shame because I have no problem with it.
