How to give England Hockey Premier Division long-term vision, identity and creativity

I’m not trying to solve all of hockey’s problems, certainly not grassroots problems. This is about the Premier Division and creating a product that raises the profile of the sport, raises the standard and gives something for kids to aspire to and be inspire by.

1. A long-term vision and strategy

We need to know where we want to be in five and 10 years so we can plan that journey. What do we actually want to do? I know the FIH play a large part with their calendar but we need to set a clear objective and aim for it.

  1. Televise Hockey,
Get more people to see matches like Football, it will bring Children into the game.
Let people see that hockey is not for Girls only.

The more Hockey Matches are on TV the more interest will be created to the general Public..

In the past when Hickey was on TV, alot of people were asking about the Game.
Suddenly it was stopped being shown.

  2. Until we have grounds with facilities for crowds we will have no spectators. Tv won’t show games with no crowds. Only Lee Valley is fit for this and the last few times I’ve been there the West stand hasn’t even been open. Look at Nottingham. 5 pitches without even one decent covered stand. We need to gamble and fund some decent grounds, get spectators in and maybe we can then move up a level.
