Hampstead & Westminster enjoy Euro Hockey trip to savour ahead of club season

Hampstead & Westminster HC members enjoyed a EuroHockey trip to remember after juniors, parents and vets travelled over to Monchengladbach.

In an action packed four days, the club played 16 matches in the under 13 to 6 age groups against leading German clubs Deutscher Sportclub Düsseldorf, Düsseldorfer SC, Düsseldorfer HC, Gladbacher HTC, Schwarz-Weiß Köln and Rot-Weiss Köln.

Fifty juniors from the club were also flag bearers and ball patrol for six international matches at the championships, including England men’s stellar semi-final win.

A number of its senior members were also playing in Germany, including James Oates for England men, who enjoyed a standout EuroHockey, and Holly Hunt, Lily Owsley and Olivia Hamilton for England women.

New men’s head coach, Andrew Wilson, was also part of the Spanish team.

Several parent coaches and chaperones also joined HWHC Vets for a friendly match against Düsseldorfer HC on Saturday evening, followed by generous hospitality on the terrace of their club house.

A club spokesperson said:”The trip was an ideal pre-season adventure for the club’s junior teams to play some incredibly strong German sides, challenging themselves ahead of Tier 1 leagues this season.

“New friendships were made and several rematches were offered for future tours.
