‘True grit’: Spirited Great Britain women set for Paris Olympic showdown

Valencia — Tess Howard remained bullish on GB’s hopes of reaching this summer’s Olympic hockey tournament after being forced into the last chance saloon play-off match against Ireland following a 3-2 defeat to Paris-bound Belgium.

Howard, who missed out on the Tokyo Games, put in another standout performance in GB’s frontlines as David Ralph’s side fell short in a game which also saw Belgium’s second goal stand and GB unable to refer.

  1. The GB girls looked all at sea in the second half v BEL. Loads of unforced errors, “trusting the process” maybe but not able to change if the process isn’t working. They need to go up early against IRE as they seem prone to having headless chicken heads on if things don’t go their way as the match progresses.

    I hope I am wrong but equally, IRE will deserve it if they can qualify.

    Overall, for me anyway, GBR(W) have not impressed.
