England Hockey League Finals: Surbiton women back on top with ninth title in 10

Surbiton — Sophie Hamilton served notice of her star potential with an outstanding title-winning goal as Surbiton regained their stranglehold on the women’s game with a telling 3-1 win over Hampstead & Westminster in Sunday’s Premier Division finale.

Surbiton came from a goal down to score three second-half goals, led by Leah Wilkinson from their concise penalty corner routines, before Hamilton’s explosive solo run two minutes from time handed them another domestic crown — their ninth league title in the last 10 completed seasons.

“She’s in her infancy of her club and international career and she has the potential to be one of the world’s best,” Amy Costello said of Hamilton’s rising status.
