Top England Hockey clubs remain in dark over ‘breakaway’ league

England Hockey says it is committed to working closely with Premier Division clubs and continue growing its league offering after reports of a breakaway new league surfaced this week.

Despite backers of the new concept — which claims to have a headline sponsor and coverage on a digital sports channel — admitting they had approached several clubs, six of English hockey’s top teams contacted by The Hockey Paper for their views confirmed they had not been made aware of any revamp plans.

Reading HC told THP that it couldn’t add anything to our questions, while a Southgate official said that it wouldn’t comment publicly at this stage. These two clubs play at venues conducive for hosting events. Hampstead & Westminster, who play on council-owned pitches, were unaware of any talks.
