Hockey World Cup: England men see the light after draw disappointment

Rourkela — A day after their memorable 0-0 against the World Cup tournament hosts, England players were on a chartered plane out of Rourkela and an hour’s flight to Odisha’s main World Cup venue in Bhubaneswar.

There was fog in the air and flights were delayed by several hours with airport traffic, much like what England faced against India’s defence on Sunday night. In the aftermath, there was clear disappointment etched across England players’ faces. A few hours later and they realised they had played their part in a special night.

“We wanted to win this one and any other result wasn’t a success as far as we are concerned,” said England midfielder Zach Wallace.
