Hockey World Cup: New Zealand take off keeper in first quarter

New Zealand, in an attempt to stifle the Netherlands ‘beautiful game’, took off their goalkeeper in the first quarter of their second pool match. It nearly opened the floodgates before the Kiwi plug was quickly filled.

Black Sticks coach Greg Nicol made the move in the 10th minute when he switched Dominic Dixon for an outfield player.

They were 1-0 down at the time through Thierry Brinkman, who scored again three minutes later.
