In high performance sport, goals are set and used daily by elite performers and there’s good reason for it. Setting consistent goals is always beneficial providing they are great goals to go for. They motivate, focus effort and support alignment in teams. They are critical to improving, performing, and succeeding at the highest level.
In my experience, when people set goals, they fall-down because:
- The goals are generally oriented around results (e.g. winning the league or competition) and not around what’s required to get the results or produce the performance.
