‘It wasn’t even my best!’: Ghana goalkeeper says crowd kept him going in defeat

Birmingham — He rates Dida, the former Brazilian football goalkeeper, and PR Sreejesh, Hockey India’s No 1 stopper, as his heroes. Duisberg Offei, Ghana’s 24-year-old goalkeeper, may have trumped them both in crowd adulation following Ghana’s 6-0 defeat.

Offei pulled off 17 saves against England on Friday night as the hosts racked up over 40 shots at goal in their Commonwealth Games opener.

The scoreline would have been considerably more but for Offei’s agility and abundance of reflex saves, which lit up the opening evening game at the University of Birmingham.
