Can Home Nations annual hockey series return to calendar?

The recent clamour for a return to regular fixtures or an annual series between the home nations has been welcomed by Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

In a recent poll conducted by The Hockey Paper, 84 per cent of readers wanted to see a 4 Nations home series fixture between England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

While a majority of England’s players also compete in the Pro League under the banner of Great Britain – England also have a higher ranking in the men’s and women’s game – ranking points are harder to come by for Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

  1. Firstly, it is not right that Welsh and Scottish players cannot play in the FIH PL. They have proved their quality over time and with GB meddled or been there in reserve.
    The Home International Championship is an historic competition. It would allow all 4 Nations to play and fans to watch; it would be a good window for GB to check out players as rarely see Club Games.
    It would bring back some of the great history, going back to 1895 when Eng, Wales and Ire playing their first games and Scot a few years later.
