Crunch time in England

The men’s domestic hockey season in England reaches its climax this weekend with the NOW: Pensions men’s finals at Reading Hockey Club.

The battle for the English championship sees premier division first-place getters East Grinstead take on fourth-place Surbiton in Saturday’s first semi-final at 2.45pm. The second semi-final sees second-place Beeston play the third-placed hosts at 5pm.

The winners go on to Sunday’s final (4.45pm) while the losers, with potentially a place in Europe at stake, will play for third and fourth at 2.15pm, Sunday.

Also over the weekend, the make-up of next year’s premier division will be decided with the completion of the promotion/relegation playoffs, featuring the three regional conference winners and the next-to-last side in the premier division – Sheffield Hallam. The round-robin tournament will decide the two available premier division places.
