Fears over ‘super clubs’ creation in England Hockey talent plan

Fears have been raised over the lack of detail in England Hockey’s new talent development framework, the creation of ‘super clubs’ suppressing player membership from others and the need to be open for alternative views.

Last month England Hockey published the first 37 clubs who will form the first cohort working towards Talent Centre accreditation which begins this month. The national governing body said that it had received submissions from over 120 clubs, which would stay in the reckoning to reach accredited status.

  • However one coach has told The Hockey Paper that some clubs – which has put over £60,000 into England Hockey’s coffers from the £600 cost to apply for the Talent Centre scheme – have refrained from speaking out over the direction of the sport for fear of missing out and being disenfranchised in the future.
