‘Flair that’s rare’: Sophie Bray hailed as one of greatest hockey players

Surbiton — Alex Danson-Bennett hailed the retiring Sophie Bray as one of the greatest British players of all time after the East Grinstead forward left a hockey pitch for the final time.

Emotion was etched across Bray’s face as East Grinstead finished with Women’s Premier Division bronze. Her final touch was a nonchalant walk-in reverse flick into the net as EG beat Wimbledon in a third place shoot-out. “The sport has given me so much,” Bray also told The Hockey Paper afterwards.

“She is still one of the greatest players in the country in my opinion,” said Danson-Bennett, the Wimbledon coach.
