Old Georgians and Surbiton battle to keep winning record in tact

The standout heavyweight match in the England Hockey Men’s Premier Division this weekend is undoubtedly Surbiton’s home clash with Old Georgians on Saturday.

The 6pm push back will see Surbiton aiming to win their first game at home against Old Georgians at the third time of asking.

Moreover, the fixture will see OGs head to Sugden Road with an 11-game winning streak and Surbiton holding a 10-game streak of their own.

Surbiton’s Tony Jones said: “It’s going to be one of the best club games of the season – eight of the GB squad recently involved with the successful Olympic Games qualification tournament in Oman could be playing. Not to mention several other players looking to make their case for Olympic selection.

“With limited club hockey happening this day (half-term break for many leagues), we are hoping the game will provide the hockey community with a great opportunity to watch some top-level entertainment.”

The match will also be streamed on YouTube.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier Division will see Surbiton head to third-placed East Grinstead in the pick of the top flight games.

East Grinstead are on a six-game unbeaten run while Surbiton haven’t lost since October in the Premier Division.

While the Top Six are setting themselves up for the Premier Division Finals phase, there is a battle in the Lower Six with two clubs across the divisions vying for places.

East Grinstead, Oxted and Beeston are battling for two spots in the Men’s top flight, while Wimbledon and Clifton Robinsons are favourites in the women’s Premier Division.
