US college women’s field hockey continues to rise, now for the men ahead of LA Olympics

Field hockey continues to make significant inroads into the US sports sphere. It still has a long way to go, but it’s becoming a more regularly played sport in the US, writes Thomas Kipling.

Hockey is becoming a regular sport to be played at a youth level in the US, with most picking up a stick as they join middle school (Grades 6-8). With more young players taking up the game, the higher echelons of the game have vastly improved in the women’s game. However, this cannot be said for men’s field hockey in the US, as it is not a major sport at the college or high school level.
