‘Egypt can be top hockey team in five years with right backing’

Muscat — For Egypt men’s players, January has been a time for hockey and no holidays for their mix of garments company workers, salesmen, office workers at a tobacco firm and lawyers. 

Ten players who battled for Olympic qualification in Valencia – this after they had two goals disallowed late on in their Africa qualifying defeat to South Africa – are in Muscat for the Hockey5s World Cup.

They are here on the back of more eye-catching displays on the world scene. In Valencia, the attack-minded team drew 4-4 with Korea, beat Japan 5-1 and edged Austria to finish fifth.
