Sofie ter Kuile aims high with next gen of Dutch hockey players

“I just thought, ‘Oh my word, we actually did it.’ All my teammates just came running at me and I was knocked over.” In April 2022, goalkeeper Sofie ter Kuile and the Dutch U21 hockey team were celebrating victory in the Junior World Cup in South Africa, conceding a record one goal in the process.

This week the junior Oranje kicked-off their title defence in Santiago, Chile. Ter Kuile, once more, has been selected as first-choice goalkeeper and will hope to maintain the Dutch defensive form.

“Looking back, it is crazy that I only got one goal against. Hopefully this time it will be zero goals, but it will be way harder,” she laughs.
