Hockey Social: Club installs new astro – after 10-year fundraiser

We round up regular stories across the UK and globe, from clubs to players and inspiring stories beyond the pitch

A Cambridgeshire club is enjoying the fruits of an incredible 10 years of fundraising as it finally opened its new astro ahead of the new season.

Wisbech Town Hockey Club opened its astro with past and present members gathering at Harecroft Road to celebrate after more than a decade of fundraising.

Adsum Sport and Play installed a new shock pad, sand-dressed playing surface with LED floodlights and new spectator area.

The old pitch was laid in 1995 and had long passed its 15-years lifespan, with emergency restoration taking place in 2019 under orders of England Hockey.

Wisbech Town Hockey Club chair Matt Esser said: “This has been a significant project, taking a number of years to come to fruition, but we can now proudly say that we have first class hockey facilities available in Wisbech.”

Bromsgrove Hockey Club has launched a fundraising campaign to generate a massive £500,000 to secure its long-term future.

The club has its own astroturf pitch complete with floodlights, clubhouse and is part of Bromsgrove Cricket, Hockey and Tennis Club.

To date, the club has raised £66k and is now planning to engage with the community and businesses to ramp up fundraising.

The club has given itself five years to raise the funds so the work can be undertaken no later than 2028.
