Scottish Hockey Awards set for 2024

Nominations for the Scottish Hockey Awards, held to celebrate and the successes of clubs, players, volunteers and officials across the country, close on Nov 13.

The Village Hotel in Glasgow hosts the event on Feb 1 next year, and tickets are available at £75 each or £700 for a table of ten.

Award categories are player of the year, international player of the year, volunteer of the year, coach of the year, official of the year, community club of the year, inclusion award, club team of the year, masters team of the year, Brave award and the Spirit of Hockey award.

The international player of the year nominees will be chosen by the Scotland national teams before going to a public vote while the Brave award nominees will be chosen by the Brave coaches. A panel of judges will compile the shortlists for all other awards.

A Scottish hockey spokesman said: “Nominate those who deserve recognition for their hard work, dedication, contribution and commitment.”

Meanwhile, the board and staff of Scottish Hockey held a meeting to check in on strategic direction, initiatives and adopting the sportscotland Changing Lives approach in equality, diversity and inclusion. A spokesman described it as “a fantastic day”.

The Changing Lives initiative believes that sporting and non-sporting organisations can pro-actively use sport and physical activity as an intentional tool to achieve both increased participation and wider social outcomes.

The sportscotland website says: “Evidence shows that being active brings about positive changes beyond participation and can impact positively on the health and wellbeing of individuals, on their skills and learning, and on communities, ensuring a more inclusive and healthier nation.”
