The Olympic hockey tournament could be reduced from its current 12-team events for the Los Angeles 2028 Games if approval is given to five new sports amid fears over athlete cuts across disciplines.
Cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse and squash are up for Olympic inclusion when the International Olympic Committee is expected to ratify Los Angeles’ “boldly reimagined sports line up” for 2028.
The decision on new sports for the LA Games was meant to be decided last month but was postponed.
