Thursday night hockey? Premier Division should set more fixtures like this

Holcombe Park — A few teachers morphing into midweek English Premier Division players were briefly stressing but managed to get to the venue in time, while there was a healthy crowd for a bar-taking boost, as the rarity of a Thursday night top flight match took hold in the Medway.

It was won by champions Old Georgians, a slender 2-1 margin in the end against an increasingly threatening Holcombe. And as the sport continues to fight eyeballs and attention — this was so far removed from the extended hype before a golf ball had even been hit in Rome — one could only imagine if this fixture, albeit a rearranged one due to both teams’ looming Euro Hockey League participation, could spark more in the future.
