Hockey World Cup: England men players praised after illness and colds

Bhubaneswar — Three clean sheets and a host of players recovering from illness left England vice-captain James Albery in admiration at the way his team-mates battled fitness in the heat of Rourkela and Bhubaneswar during their World Cup group stages.

Several England players had coughs and were well below par for the first two games, but Paul Revington’s side still fielded an 18-strong squad. Still, you wouldn’t have noticed such was England’s form.

“We didn’t expect to come out here and get three clean sheets but I was so happy the way the boys have defended,” said Albery.
