Bhubaneswar — Hockey Wales called it a ‘David v Goliath’ outing as they faced up to India in the biggest game of the Welsh players’ lives.
That they put up such a fine World Cup showing and were left disappointed after a 4-2 defeat, showed that they meant business after glimpses of their true potential in their opening two matches.
They now head back to Rourkela for the classification matches, while outgoing Hockey Wales chief executive Ria Burrage-Male headed home after experiencing the culmination of men’s national side’s ‘incredible journey’ to reach the World Cup. Now she wants to leave a legacy to take the sport into a new era.
