‘Powerful statement’: Wales hockey players would back Cymru name change

Bhubaneswar — Wales have already made their mark by qualifying for a first World Cup. Now, their hockey players would back any change to be referred to as Cymru – Welsh for Wales – at international events.

Ahead of the football World Cup, the Football Association of Wales revealed that it was planning a name change, with the nation being referred to as Cymru.

It is the same in hockey circles, too, with captain Rupert Shipperley saying: “We refer to ourselves as Cymru. We don’t shout Wales at the end of our huddles.”
