Sophie Hamilton can be future world hockey star, says England’s Shona McCallin

Olympian Shona McCallin has heaped praise on young star Sophie Hamilton after the 21-year-old’s meteoric rise to Commonwealth Games glory this month.

Hamilton, the Surbiton midfielder, made her debut for England in February alongside fellow gold medallists Holly Hunt and Flora Peel and, says McCallin, overcame a “sink or swim” summer with World Cup and the Commonwealths.

McCallin, 30, admitted that Hamilton has developed fast since first being introduced to the senior squad before her call-up to the programme in January and then “running the show” as a Surbiton player last season.
