East Hockey league to develop state school access after landing sponsor

The East Region Hockey League says it will invest in the development of state school hockey in the region after landing a multi-year title sponsor.

Sports retailer MR Cricket Hockey has been announced as the new official title sponsor until at least the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Around 550 teams play in the 55-division league, making it one of the largest amateur sports leagues in the country.

ERHA Development Director Stuart Burnside said: “Finding new commercial partners willing to invest in the game despite the headwinds from the pandemic reaffirms hockey’s wide appeal.

“We anticipate using the sponsorship revenues to invest in developing access to our sport, with a particular focus on state schools.

“We look forward to working with MR Cricket hockey over the next three years to build on the success of the competition and create many more memorable matches for us all to celebrate.”

Merrick Fuller, MR Cricket hockey director, said that its title sponsorship would help aid the region’s hockey despite the setback of the pandemic.

He said: “Outdoor sports are an essential part of staying healthy both physically and mentally, and it’s a real honour to be able to support the development of hockey in these trying times.”
