Belgium hockey coach aims for back-to-back world and Olympic titles

Belgium’s national side is the first to reconvene as a squad after their Olympic gold in Tokyo and new coach Michel van den Heuvel says that he is tasked with repeating their World Cup-Olympic title success with few retirees and “an elite player in every position”, writes Richard Bright.

Van den Heuvel, 57, takes over the mantle from Shaun McLeod, who has returned to New Zealand for a break from hockey. Stepping up as an assistant to McLeod, Van den Heuvel knows the Belgium model inside out as they bed in to their new high performance centre.
