Tyranny of distance: Coaching masters hockey remotely in Australia

Player assessments, camps, planning and reviews. Coaching an over-35s Masters World Cup team to success needs plenty of hard grind, writes Bill Tomkins.

Coaching and playing at the national and international levels in Australia create a unique set of problems due to the distance across the continent.

To be selected for international teams’ players have to attend a two-week National Championships that are held once a year in different capital cities or country hockey centres.
