Hockey boost as EU bans rubber infill for 3G pitches from 2031

Rubber crumb on 3G will be phased out from 2031 after concerns over the environmental impact on the pitches which have been a growing thorn in hockey’s side.

The European Commission completed the adoption of a restriction on the sale of intentionally added microplastics onto the European market, which includes rubber infill for 3G AGPs. There has been a sharp increase in recycled old tyres being used in recent years.
