Super 6s indoors: East Grinstead and Old Georgians claim titles

East Grinstead women added a national indoor hockey title to their outdoor championship success, while Old Georgians men also doubled up in winning for the first time.

The three Carson brothers scored all six of Old Georgians goals – James Carson scoring a hat-trick – as the Weybridge atoned for their 2023 defeat to Wimbledon in a 6-4 thriller.

Wimbledon led three times but in the end had no answer to Old Georgians’ slick passing range, penetration and accuracy as they landed a European spot for the first time.

OGs captain Dan Shingles said: “It’s always a tight one against Wimbledon, every match whether it be indoors or outdoors over the last couple of years have always been close and today was no different.”

Earlier, East Grinstead romped to another women’s title with a 6-1 win over Surbiton.

Teenager Biba Mills, formerly of Knowle Park, scored a double in a standout performance, while their captain Chloe Brown led from the back.

Victory saw East Grinstead women become the first to hold both indoor and outdoor league titles since the 2012/13 season.

Brown said: “We couldn’t ask for anything better. I felt like we dominated from the start and kept control, they had early chances but so did we.

“Sticking to the game plan was important and we did that. Europe next year now, we’re super excited.”

In the semi-finals on Sunday, Surbiton overcame Buckingham 4-1, while East Grinstead beat Slough 3-2.

Old Georgians came out on top to beat Hampstead and Westminster 5-3, while Wimbedon beat Sevenoaks 8-2.
