Glasgow 2014 ticketing marred by hours of frustration

Glasgow 2014 closed their website for an hour last night investigate why thousands of people were unable to get through to purchase more than 100,000 tickets for the Commonwealth Games released on Monday morning.

The situation improved on Tuesday with some users reporting successful purchases, although there were also complaints on Twitter of website failures, particularly in the checkout process.

@Glasgow2014 I am through to checkout when purchasing tickets. I am clicking submit, then the page goes grey and returns to same page?

Tickets for hockey and 16 other sports as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, went on sale at 10am on Monday at https://tickets.glasgow2014.com, but many users faced hours of frustration in the queuing system in place on phone lines and website to deal with the expected high demand.

Many expressed their frustration, and relief, on Twitter:

@pudsey136 @PUSHHOCKEYMAG @LynneMorgan1 @Glasgow2014 Phew! And breathe … 12 hrs 10mins and I got through! #hockey finals sorted

Glasgow 2014 announced at 10.40pm last night:  “In order to continue investigations, we will close the ticketing website for one hour from midnight tonight.

“We will provide a further update once we have completed this important assessment.

“Thank you for your continued support and patience.”

But frustration continued into Tuesday morning with the website still reporting a queue in excess of 60 minutes.
