Hockey Social: Does Great Britain set-up miss true talent at trials?

Is there a better way to choose the next set of talent to make the grade at Great Britain senior level? That was the question highlighted recently by former international Mikey Hoare.

Hoare, who plays for Wimbledon, said that some players could be stymied by issues which could affect their ability on the pitch by the time of trials.

    • Think it goes even lower than this. I’ve seen potential at London Youth Gamesu11s..no clubs to be seen. Children at non hockey schools are never going to develop as well , just the way it is, no matter how hard clubs try. Time on the pitch is finite.

  1. Probably not but I don’t know what the specific brief is.
    There is a waste of talent that is not given the opportunity from club level up.
