Repton reach milestone, Whitgift romp to England Hockey U18 schools title

Whitgift thumped Cranleigh 7-1 to lift the Tier 1 U18 boys’ final at Lee Valley on Thursday, while Repton girls won the U18 title to deliver a 50th national schools success.

Tom Mead scored a hat-trick and Jake Bennett scored two to see Karl Stagno’s side to another success.

Mead scored two in five minutes after Sammy Dowds had pulled Cranleigh back to 2-1.

Two late yellows then hurt Cranleigh further as Oliver and Jake Bennett scored late on.

Whitgift had beaten St George’s College 5-0 in the semi-final to underline their dominance. Jack Bennett finished top scorer, with five goals in the two-day finale.

50 up for Repton

In a far tighter girls’ final, Repton, coached by Adam Dixon, beat Clifton College 1-0 as the school claimed a milestone half century of national title successes.

Tilly Hands scored the title winner in the 27th minute.

There was a final reverse in the U14 girls’ title showdown when Epsom beat Repton courtesy of Alethea Jones’ goal in the 51st minute.

In the U16 girls final at Lee Valley, Georgia Howe’s penalty corner brace paved the way for Wellington’s 5-0 win over Oakham.
