My life in hockey: Umpire Steve Godwin

Steve Godwin has been in hockey for 45 years, leads the development team for England Hockey South Central as well as umpiring in South Premier 1

My main role is to try and bring on umpires to go to Level 3 on Saturdays. I also do some BUCS midweek hockey and coach up and comings and I am involved with David Faulkner and the south coast talent academy, which involves the best players from the likes of Havant Fareham (where I played hockey back in the day and coached the 1s) and Chichester. I’ve linked up with Dave to do their development where the players need to know about umpiring. 

Additionally, in South Central we go to clubs and help their umpires and also umpire some midweek training games. We have 13 clubs signed up.
