Where: Lee Valley, London (BT Sport)
When: May 26-28, June 2-4
Those who watched the last Pro League action featuring Great Britain down under might be feeling a touch excited when the global league kicks off over the next two weekends in London.
After two mini tournaments in Argentina and New Zealand, GB men lie second in the overall standings (four wins, three shoot-out wins and a shoot-out loss). It means they remain undefeated in normal time and are seemingly making great strides under coach Paul Revington.
Goalkeeper Toby Reynolds-Cotterill, who starred for Wales in January’s World Cup, is in line to receive his first GB cap over the weekend. James Mazarelo is GB’s No.1 with Ollie Payne missing.
Their opening clash with India, with new coach Craig Fulton at the helm, will be a top-of-the-table tussle.
World No.2 Belgium also make the trip, but will be without some of their top stars. The spread of Pro League means that they are still playing club hockey in a crucial play-off phase in the Netherlands and Germany.
Meanwhile, fellow hosts GB women are in sixth place in the Pro League standings. After a poor start, they showed maturing signs in Canterbury after three wins and a defeat.
The team to watch will be China, beaten just once in their last seven matches all in, including their last two victories against Australia in March.
The third team in the women’s mini tournament is Belgium, the world No.6 side who sit bottom of the Pro League. They have yet to win from their four games.
