A decade in making, Romsey hockey moves into new facility

A Hampshire club has waited a decade to move into new facilities after years of planning and delays – but now it is finally able to celebrate.

Romsey has moved into its new facility at Ganger Farm Sports Park, having waited patiently following a two-year delay over design issues before ownership was granted to Test Valley Borough Council.

The Ganger Farm Sports Park facilities include football, rugby and hockey pitches.

Romsey had previously been housed at Romsey School, while it used a local pub for its socials.

The club’s vice-chairman Stuart Robertson said: “What’s really attractive to us is that we can play, shower, have teas and watch the following matches from the balcony all at the same venue. Which should attract new members but also retain members.

“As a club we’re always wanting to move forward and Ganger Farm represents the next step for Romsey Hockey Club.

“It’s been fantastic to see so many people come down and try hockey for the first time and there’s been a real buzz around the new facilities. We’re really impressed by the quality of the sports park and are so excited about what the next few years could bring for us as a club.”

Romsey HC had first looked at the facility plans back in 2012.

Robertson added: “We have a drawing from 2014 that shows the new complex in pretty much the same design as has finally turned into reality. It has been 10 years of hard work from all of those involved but the final outcome is amazing.”
