Anne Veenendaal, a reserve in Tokyo but switching as a sub with Josine Koning for the Netherlands’ pool matches, also had to contend with playing against her girlfriend in the defending champions’ opening match with Ireland.

  1. Thought Chile were impressive against Germany – worked hard, defended well, just ran out of steam towards the end of the game. Certainly a positive performance against one of the tournament’s stronger teams.
