The East View: England Hockey restructure will be better road for the sport

Jamie Oxley, of Old Loughtonians, assesses England Hockey’s ‘Structure Fit for the Future’ changes ahead of new season

It has been a bumpy road and it won’t be what some people want to hear. But I am fully behind it.

I asked Sally Munday [former England Hockey chief executive] six years ago when we were going to have one central website. Now, I’m sure it will be a better road for the sport and we will look back in a few years time and wonder why we didn’t do this 10 years ago.

At a regional level over the years under the old structure, I was involved in conversations listening to a range of individuals worrying about a change of colours or its name. There were too many people who held too much power in various corners of England.
