Belarus women added outdoor success to Euro indoor glory by lifting the EuroHockey Championship II title in Prague after beating France 1-0 in Saturday’s final.
Belarus had finished behind 2024 Olympic hosts France in the Pool stages, but clinched the title courtesy of a 53rd-minute goal from Yauheniya Filipovich.
Wales finished fourth after Poland clinched bronze with a 4-1 win – Eloise Laity scored Wales’ only goal in the second-half – with both team earning places at the World Cup qualifiers in the autumn.
Rome will be the location for the women’s European qualifying event for the 2022 women’s Cup in Spain and Holland.
In January 2020, Belarus had sparked wild scenes by beating the Netherlands to land the EuroHockey Nations women’s indoor title for the first time.
Under Dutchman Herman Kruis, the Belarusians scored with 16 seconds left and then won the shoot-out in Minsk.
Now with two titles at indoor and outdoor level, the national side is continuing its upward trajectory.
