Olympics Hockey: We’ve got the Great Britain ‘bulldog’ spirit now, says Lily Owsley

An adrenaline-fuelled soundbite from Lily Owsley is contagious at the best times following a win of Olympic-sized proportions.

Take the victory over Spain in the quarter-finals, one where Maddie Hinch was unleashed in the shoot-out – a penny for Dutch thoughts after that one – and put Great Britain women into a semi-final showdown with Alyson Annan’s all-conquering side since the Rio Olympic final.

“The more people that write us off, the better – we’ll show them!” said Owsley, one of a trio of players to watch against the Oranje on Wednesday, according to THP columnist Todd Williams.

“We’ve had a rocky few years – I know everyone’s gone through the pandemic – we only got Mark [Hager] in a few years ago so it’s been a real rebuilding process and it’s taken us a bit of time.
