English hockey’s youngest club chairman named as Commonwealth Games ‘hometown hero’

Jeevan Chagger, the youngest chairman in English hockey, has expressed his surprise at being named as one of 14 ‘Hometown Heroes’ ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games.

The campaign, run by Birmingham 2022, recognises the diversity of the West Midlands and includes coaches, managers, umpires and fundraisers, who have played a key role in grassroots sport.

And Chagger is one of those after playing a pivotal part in the sport both on and off the field. He joined Yardley HC as an 11-year-old, helped merge the club as City of Birmingham HC and became a chairman in 2018.
