World hockey accounts reveal losses in 2019

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) lost more than £519,000 in 2019, according to the governing body’s latest financial figures.

In the last FIH auditors report, released in late 2019, the financial statement revealed that TV production costs were ‘under-estimated’ while broadcasting deals were ‘overestimated’.

According to those FIH accounts, losses amounted to £590,000, with budgets for 2020 and 2022 secured, thanks to India hosting the 2022 Men’s World Cup and the bolstering of the world governing body’s coffers.

At the time, the FIH noted “an important negative result in 2019”.

One year on and Inside The Games reported that the federation’s losses were double that of 2018.

Accounts reveal that the first year FIH Pro League deficits amounted to circa £1.2 million, the global league running with no title sponsor.

Meanwhile, total operating income was put at circa £9m, with over half accrued from the International Olympic Committee. Overall, income was down £2m on 2018.

The FIH Congress is still set for May when Narinder Batra’s run as presidency is set to end, unless re-elected.
