‘To go from little junior club to national title was insane’ – East Grinstead teen star Anna Faulstich

When Anna Faulstich was a Year 7, two of GB’s Rio heroes Sophie Bray and Laura Unsworth came to open her grammar school pitch. Faulstich was, she says, star struck then. Last April she was in the same East Grinstead side as those two ribbon cutters who created history as the Sussex club became league champions. “To go and win league finals with them was insane,” says Faulstich, who turned 18 on Wednesday.

Having added an indoor title with a superb performance in January’s Super 6s finals in Derby, Faulstich will now line up with EG at the Euro Hockey League against hosts Amsterdam under the Friday night lights for the biggest 60 minutes of her career to date. “The league finals were big but this is the biggest you can get really,” she tells The Hockey Paper.

Faulstich started her hockey career with Sevenoaks HC as a seven-year-old before going to Knowle Park. She has been an England junior since she was 15 and is now into her last England under-18 season. Into her second year at East Grinstead, she is now set to attend Princeton University on a four-year course.
