Bowdon ‘buzzing’ after return to England Hockey Premier Division

A “buzzing” Bowdon toasted promotion back to the Men’s Premier Division for the first time in 14 years at the weekend.

Bowdon were the only side unbeaten in the men’s National League until losing their sole game of the season 7-4 against Brooklands at the weekend in an otherwise memorable season of Division One success under captain Sam Cooke.

They finished eight points clear ahead of Loughborough, Brooklands and Durham , with the club saying it “demonstrates the team’s consistency and dominance throughout the campaign. It speaks volumes about the hard work and determination of the players and coaching staff involved.”

Head coach Simon Egerton, who scored a hat-rick against Brooklands, said: ‘The whole squad and management is buzzing at the moment. Getting promoted at home with two games still to play was an amazing day for everyone associated with Bowdon. It was great to see so many people down supporting us.

“This season has been a culmination of a lot of hard work by the squad, but also so many amazing club members in the background.

“We challenge each other every training session, dedicate a lot of time, and in doing so have built a fantastic culture that is proud to represent Bowdon. We’ve used 26 players, which is the most we’ve used in a season before. They’ve all worked incredibly hard, but most importantly, had a great time while doing it.

“We’re looking forward to the Premier League, we know it’s going to be tough, but it’s a challenge we’re well up for.”
