Old Georgians rally to keep Finals Day ticket on track, H&W women record biggest win

In a three-game shoot out to secure one of four Finals Weekend tickets, nothing is certain. And Old Georgians nearly found that out to their cost before carving out a brilliant comeback to deny Beeston at the weekend.

Champions Old Georgians came back from 4-2 down to score three in the final 12 minutes in a 5-4 win over Beeston at St. George’s College.

Victory was confirmed in the final three minutes by Ed Carson, who scored twice.

Chris Griffiths, who scored OG’s third, told the England Hockey website: “Going into the final quarter 4-2 down was not how we saw the game going, but ultimately we knew we would have a lot of possession and chances created.

“Victory was massively important ahead of Hampstead this weekend and going into EHL the following week.”

Meanwhile, Hampstead & Westminster won their first match against Holcombe since 2019 in a 1-0 success after Jolyon Morgan’s strike.

Surbiton and Wimbledon look favourites for Finals Weekend spots after 8-1 and 7-3 wins over Oxted and Southgate respectively. Sam Hooper scored four from penalty corners in Wimbledon’s 10th win from their last 11.

At the bottom, there is a three-way tussle for Premier Division survival with Reading, Cardiff & Met and University of Nottingham.

In the Women’s Premier Division, Hampstead & Westminster recorded their biggest Premier Division win with a 9-3 success over University of Nottingham.

East Grinstead beat Wimbleon 2-1 to go top of Pool B as their bid for back-to-back titles continued.

In the relegation battle, Cerys Miller scored a clinical leveller for Beeston seven minutes from time in a 1-1 draw against Loughborough Students.

The Students remain five points clear of the Bees with two matches left. Isca & University of Exeter are already relegated.
