Hockey5s World Cup takeaways: ACLs, wild west matches but great for development

After over 900 goals in nearly 100 matches across men and women, The Hockey Paper runs the rule over the first FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat and

The new rule implemented to make high hits illegal between the quarter and halfway was undoubtedly a sound one. The sight of decent dragflickers unleashing from half-way could have been a disaster. FIH president Tayyab Ikram told THP that it was his decision to put the ruling in place.

The Hockey Paper still saw wild swing throughs – including an Indian stick connecting to a Dutch head (thankful there was no full connection), USA’s Michael Barminski concussed, smacked near the eye and the game stopped as blood was cleaned up.
