‘It’s not the money, committee had developed a clear and cogent plan’

Alastair Whatley, Southgate hockey’s secretary, on the darkness before a new dawn at the club

The new season is now well under way and Southgate, like many clubs up and down the country, is working at full capacity as we attempt to field sides, win games, deal with GMS, whilst simultaneously looking to the future and attempting to plan for tomorrow.

Perhaps the elephant in the room from last season was the overhaul of our coaching set up as we brought in two new head coaches for our men’s and women’s sections in time for the start of the new season.

  1. It is really great to seem much that has been talked about for years now being set in motion. I think back to an email penned by Chris Hibbert almost 10 years ago that seems to be the blueprint for what is happening now. Amazing what can be done when a club is united in a vision. Well done to Neil Murphy and Neil Prior for galvanising that vision and hopefully seeing Southgate become a fixture in the top league again.
