Commonwealth Games Hockey: New Zealand run riot with 16-0 win over Kenya

Birmingham — Ranked one place about Peru in the world rankings, this was always going to be a mountain to climb for Commonwealth newbies Kenya.

The world No 37 side were put to the sword by defending women’s champions New Zealand, running out 16-0 winners, mirroring South Africa’s previous win over Trinidad & Tobago at the 2014 Games.

The Kenyans have to pay to train on the one proper astroturf in Nairobi, while these Games represented the first time that the team could have their own sticks and bags.
