Super 6s Hockey: Old Georgians promoted to Men’s Premier Division

Old Georgians cantered to the Men’s Division One title on Saturday, ensuring promotion to the Super 6s Premier Division next season.

They were joined by University of Exeter, whose promotion bid went down to the final match of the day against Team Bath Buccaneers in a west country battle for supremacy.

Team Bath had held second spot but were usurped in fine style by Exeter, who notched a 9-3 victory and a hat-trick by Lewis Wilcher to ensure promotion to the top flight next season.

Injuries and Covid had seen coach Mike Hughes drafted into the Old Georgians squad.

Yet they continued their scoring prowess, recording a 12-3 win over Loughborough and 14-4 victory against Ashmoor, Ashley Jackson and James Carson both netting hat-tricks.

OGs scored 63 goals across their six unbeaten matches to finish on 18 points. Scot Lee Morton finished top scorer, with 11 goals.

Meanwhile, Sevenoaks men muscled their way into the Super 6s Championships finals placings with a battling display on the penultimate day of the indoor season on Saturday.

An opening 4-4 draw against Reading – they were 4-2 ahead courtesy of a Ben Allberry hat-trick – was followed up by a 4-2 win over Reading as Sevenoaks raced into contention for a top four place at the Copper Box Arena at the end of the month.

Surbiton have five wins from six and place top with one day remaining. Hampstead also have five wins from six, with Wimbledon sitting in third.

East Grinstead endured a tough day, losing 7-2 to Hampstead & Westminster and 7-6 to Wimbledon. They sit in sixth behind Holcombe.

At the other end of the table, Brooklands MU and Reading are both pointless after losing all five games.

The women’s Premier Division and Division One outcomes will be known on Sunday.
